Baby Kea

Our female boxer (Kea) is 11 years old now.

She was diagnosed with Cushings Disease about a year after our baby Gridgery died (Kea pictured above at Gridery's spot at Poor Farm Park).

She's been on a steady dose of medications since her diagnosis but she seems to have taken a turn for the worst in the past several weeks.

She's lost so much weight and can't hold herself up for very long.

She walks into walls.

She falls down stairs.

She walks in circles.

It's breaking our heart to see her like this.

The vet thinks it's a tumor in the pituitary gland and that it's probably the reason she's walking into walls and walking in circles.

She falls a lot.

We're feeding her more good food than she's ever had and she still doesn't gain any of her weight back.

I hate this...

but I think we're losing her.

I'm praying that the vet will find something new and hopeful in her recent test results that we can try.

I can't stand seeing Kea so out of sorts.  So.....lost.

Meet Kozy...

(April 17, 2010)

It's been about 8 months since I lost my baby boy.

I've been lonely.

I know that sounds ridiculous considering I have wonderful friends, an absolutely amazing husband and a baby girl...but Kea (baby girl) has always been my husbands dog.

Gridgery (my baby boy) was always mine.

The equilibrium in the house has been off since Gridge died.

We always had a dog (each of us) to play with, hug, walk, etc.

It's so, so different with just three of us.

I'd been entertaining the idea of getting another puppy for a few weeks now.

I know in my heart I will never, ever have what I had with Gridge, and that I will never, ever find another Gridge....but I need to love something again.

My husband was apprehensive of getting a new puppy, especially in our brand new house (with carpets still intact).

So we compromised.

I'd like to introduce you to the new addition to our family...

Meet Kozy.

He's a 3 year old male boxer that needed a good home.

And he's trouble....

but a little trouble is exactly what I need right now.  =)

News...

(August 25, 2009)

I neglected to mention in this blog that my husband and I purchased a new house.

It's been bitter-sweet because we're really excited about the new place, the new yard, the amount of space we'll have, etc. but we're also extremely sad because we know Gridge may not live to see it or enjoy it.

I've been spending every moment possible with my baby....and it's breaking my heart trying to imagine living in a house without him....living anywhere without him.

Favorite Watering Hole...

(July 18, 2009)

Gridge is doing very, very well on the steroids that our Vet prescribed to help keep him comfortable. He's actually gained a little weight back (fabulous!) and is quite active!

It was a nice, hot day today...so I took Gridge and Kea to their favorite watering hole....Poor Farm Park. =)
