Steve Irwin Day 2007

(November 15, 2007)

November 15th has been declared Steve Irwin Day...a day to celebrate the life of the late wildlife warrior.

Everyone is encouraged to take the day off and do something fun or camp out in your back yard or wear khaki's all day....but whatever you do....do it in remembrance of the greatest conservationist to have ever walked the earth!

Norm and I took the day off and went to our local zoo!

Neither of us had ever been to this zoo and I really wasn't sure what to expect.

It was cold out...really cold...so while Australia celebrated Steve Irwin Day in khaki shorts and t-shirts...we were sporting long jeans and jackets.

Some of the animals were put inside because of the cold, but there was still a good deal of activity going on.

We pretty much had the entire zoo to ourselves! It was wonderful!

We saw monkey's, kangaroo's, imu's, rhino's, lions tigers and bears, goats, zebra, camels (they were my favorite) and something neither of us had ever seen or heard of before...a binturong....otherwise known as a bear-cat!

This thing was amazing! He was so curious about us as he sniffed the air in our direction.

He looked old and his movements were pretty slow, but he was gorgeous!

At first glance, I thought he was an ROUS (rodent of unusual size) from The Princess Bride! =)

He's so cute though!

Check out the video to see all the wonderful creatures we encountered!

There was even an e"scape" goat! =)
